Legendary Singer SP Balasubrahmaniam is No More, died due to Covid

जिए तो जिए कैसे, बिन आपके...  Legendary Singer SP Balasubrahmaniam breathed his last today (25^th September, 2020) at a hospital in Chennai after over a month long hospitalisation.

Balasubrahmaniam was tested positive for COVID-19 on August 5^th, and was admitted to MGM Healthcare facility in Chennai. Subsequently, his health deteriorated and he was under intensive care in a critical state and was also kept on ventilator during treatment. Though on 7 September 2020, Balasubrahmaniam tested negative for the coronavirus, but he remained on ventilator support as organs were not performing.

Born as  Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmaniam on 4 June 1946, he was also referred to as SP Balasubramaniam, S. P. Balu, S. P. B., or Balu. He was a very successful playback singer and music director who worked predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam films. He also produced and acted in films. He sung over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages.

His extra ordinary and popular work had garnered him six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for his works in four different languages; Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, 25 Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Awards for his works towards Telugu cinema, numerous other state awards from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In addition, he had also won National Filmfare Award, and six Filmfare Awards South. He also received the state NTR National Award for his contributions to Indian cinema. In 2016, He was honoured with the Indian Film Personality of the Year consisting of a Silver Peacock Medal.

SP Balasubramaniam was also a proud recipient of the Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011 from the Government of India.
